I reentered the world of Ham Radio in 2005 after a 50 year hiatus, and I am delighted to be back. My original call was WV2IRG, from Tarrytown, New York, back in the 50s.

It was an unfortunate mistake to drop "ham" radio after my Novice license expired, but at least I had the good sense to remember the hobby. After retiring, I got my General license as soon as I could. I followed it guiltily with an upgrade to extra. I feel guilty in that I did not need to show any more code proficiency than 5 WPM to earn the extra license. While that did not seem right to me, it is what it is.

Now I spend much of my time chasing dx and having fun with the challenge of QRP. All the while, I am trying to improve my operating skills. I feel it is a privilege to hold the license and I strive to be worthy of the honor. I stumble a lot, but I'm trying.

Being a retired electrical engineer, I have some interest in how the science of radio and electronics came to be. The history of radio and electronics is rich with the inventive genius of mankind. Studying this history provides a marvelous look at where we have been and an exciting anticipation of what our future holds. I've compiled a few bits of that history. radio historyClick here for an historical journey through radio time.
